Beginning this new 2nd semester, only a few weeks free from MYE, some of us may feel quite lazy because the cycle of learning goes on and on and on. Everyday, we wake up, go to school, feel tired, get stressed, and then we go home, eat, sleep, and the same process repeats itself.
However, this term, we have one additional week of leisure all throughout Chinese New Year. This fresh breeze of holiday is an unexpected development as we have not had a longer Chinese New Year holiday in the previous years.
Although it’s not a long time, it is all the better to appreciate it to the fullest. Teachers, faculty staff and students can relax. As we celebrate the Year of the Snake with good fortune and food, we should make time to rest, recuperate and sleep better during this one week of holiday.
We have asked a few students around school for their thoughts on how they feel about this Chinese New Year break
Warner from Secondary 1 said, “It’s too short, I want a longer term break because I’m still stressed.”
Some are very thankful for the week-long break mid-term, but still share the same sentiments.
“It’s okay, but I wish it was longer,” commented Ryu from Secondary 1. “The term break can help students unwind from stress at school before FYE.”
Several other students also agreed that they needed more time to rest. Personally, I also would love to have a longer term break, to at least add one more week. Nevertheless, this break still gives us all an opportunity to relax and properly celebrate with family, for which I am thankful.
The responsibilities of school cannot leave even during a week of holiday, especially with the new topics I am learning. But even with all the stress, we can still enjoy it, right?
This term, let us appreciate the teachers, ourselves, and all our friends, by giving them space and time to relax this term break. It can help us unwind and get rid of the fatigue, pain and the tasks that are just way too much for us to handle. Moreover, let us rest our minds from overworking so we don’t overclock because of stress. Finally, let us be thankful that this break has given us the time to sleep and release the stuffed up feelings inside us.
