On August 10, 2026, Bina Bangsa School Bandung held the election of the SJC Student Council. Students had the opportunity to listen to each of the three candidate’s goals , and on that day it was the student’s turn to finalize their votes and choose the Student Council for academic year 2026-2027.
The election began with the prefects and teachers introducing the voting process of the election which mirrors the real-life experience of the presidential election in Indonesia. The students begin by lining up and being given a piece of paper with the candidates’ names. Then, one by one, the students go to stations to discreetly poke a small hole in the group they choose. Finally, they hand their papers to the prefects and mark their pinkies with ink as proof that one has already cast their vote.
Regardless of who won, all three candidates demonstrated courage and commitment by stepping forward to represent their fellow students. When interviewed on how they would still contribute to the school if they were not elected, Naomi, the president of 1M , Matthew representing G3, and Morgan, representing A.C.E expressed their commitment of serving the students by still participating in other student leadership activities or finding other ways to serve the school community.
The response reminds us that leadership is not simply about winning a title, it is about listening, serving others, and making a positive impact.
When asked what they learnt during their campaign, Matthew and Morgan of Secondary 3 Logic highlighted the importance of communicating with others, listening and understanding different perspectives. On the other hand, Naomi emphasized the importance of maintaining integrity and trying to focus on improving ourselves instead of finding flaws in other people.
“The student council gives the students a chance to share their ideas, suggestions, and concerns to build a strong school community with teamwork by organising school activities and encouraging the students to take part and be involved in school,” Morgan explained.
The election also showed that leadership is not simply about winning a position, but about having the courage to make a difference. With new student leaders stepping forward, the Student Council continues to inspire students to contribute, grow, and create a positive school environment for everyone.
