Starting on October 14 2024, Bina Bangsa School’s S4-JC1 pupils went on an educational field trip to Semarang. The three-day excursion, which took students to Central Java’s historical sites, cultural icons, and natural wonders, was planned to combine education with adventure.

On the evening of the fourteenth, the students assembled at our campus to go on their overnight bus ride, marking the start of the tour. As they boarded, there was evidently a lot of anticipation for the exciting and enriching schedule.

Arriving at Dieng Plateau early on their first day in Semarang, they were welcomed with a magnificent dawn at Sikunir, which is renowned for its breathtaking views of the highlands. The students visited the Pandawa 5 Temple, an old Hindu temple complex that provided insights into the area’s spiritual legacy following a brief breakfast and relaxation at a nearby eatery. After that, they went to “Asia Resto” for lunch before heading back to Semarang. After checking into their hotel later that evening, they went to “Kampoeng Laut” restaurant for a delicious supper where they were able to try some local cuisine and strengthen their bonds with their classmates over the events of the day.

On the second day after breakfast at the hotel, students visited the Museum Ambarawa to learn about the development of transport in the nation and the history of Indonesian railways. Following this, they took a tour of the historic KA Kuno train, which added a practical component to their education. They went to Dusun Semilir, an ecotourism destination renowned for its distinctive fusion of indigenous architecture and scenic surroundings, in the afternoon. Following lunch, they returned to Semarang to tour Kota Tua, often known as Old Town, a historic area known for its colonial-era structures. Before heading back to the hotel for a restful night’s sleep, the students went to a nearby restaurant for a satisfying dinner.

After leaving their hotel on the last day, the students headed to Lawang Sewu, one of Semarang’s most recognisable sites, which is renowned for both its interesting architecture and historical significance. A century old Chinese temple called Sam Po Kong was next on their itinerary.  Following a final meal at a neighbourhood eatery, students had the opportunity to purchase souvenirs to bring home from their amazing time in Semarang. They reflected on the trip’s highlights and the knowledge they had acquired during the drive back to Bandung.

This field trip was the ideal combination of learning and discovery, strengthening the relationships between classmates and expanding the students’ knowledge of Indonesian history and culture. They will undoubtedly carry with them the lessons and memories of this event, which will arouse a lifelong interest in and admiration for their nation’s rich cultural legacy.
