On September 5 2024, BBS Bandung’s University and Career Counseling Department held the Edu Fair at the school’s hall in partnership with Jack Study Abroad to offer Junior College students the shot they need to excel.
The BBS Edu Fair is one of the kickstarters to help students navigate their way through the most future-defining moments of their life: university and career. It is an event for JC1 and JC2 students who will soon be taking the necessary preparations to apply to their dream universities.
The Junior College students prepared a plethora of questions for each reputable representative to know the ins and outs of university life and equip these students with the knowledge to meet the standards.
These consultants have been invited to represent 23 different esteemed universities from developed countries. This hot pot of prestigious universities opens doors for students to study abroad in advanced countries in the future. These universities include, but are not limited to: Curtin University, University of Victoria, and Auckland University of Technology.
We asked the organiser of the Edufair and Head of the University and Career Counseling Department, Mr. Melvin Abella Nifas, about the Edufair’s purpose as well as its impact on the students, and here’s what he had to say:
“The Junior College 1 and 2 students attended the event to know in detail the admission process, university requirements, scholarships, co-op and career opportunities, and more.”
BBS uses its widespread platforms and strong connections between different institutions to ensure that the students are in touch with prominent universities. This further enriches the students’ experiences. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity grants them the chance to lock down and pursue their dream majors and universities.
We asked several Junior College students about how the BBS Edufair has helped them.
”It helped me to understand the universities more and gave an in-depth [view] of what a university offers and how to find a perfect university for my future,” said Kenzie Kennaya Tanzil, Junior College 1 student.
Teja Srinivasan, another Junior College 1 student, stated, “It showed that my college applications and universities have wider and better options.”
Additionally, we were interested in how the students can take full advantage of the things learnt from the pool of information during the Edufair.
Kenzie answered, “The knowledge I learnt from Edufair can be used to find a perfect university that is suitable for me.”
“I learnt that a lot of universities actually give full scholarships, and the process for that too is not that hard,” commented Teja Srinivasan, JC1. “It showed me that wherever I’m planning to go, the topmost priorities should be scholarships, the facilities, and the requirements before anything else.”
Another student, Kayla Chrysilla Fernando, commented, “I can know all the different environments, facilities, and the support systems and lifestyles on that particular campus.”
These Junior College students are actively planning out their futures, and so we think that the student body would also be interested in what their seniors would have to say.
“My dream university is MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology),” said Teja Srinivasan, JC1. “I’m working on my grades and joining a lot of extracurriculars to really boost my applications.”
Wayne Tedjasukmana, JC1, said “[I want to attend] NAFA (National Academy of Arts), for an Art Major. I’m actively honing art skills and building a portfolio to prepare.”
Moving forward, BBS Bandung hopes that through the Edufair, students are able to expand their horizons and reach further through the experience itself, so that they not only grasp a sense of their options, but also certainty in their future and their actions that will propel them further in their academic endeavors.
